Chiropractic Adjustment

Adjustment is the chiropractic word for manipulation. The chiropractor performs the adjustment by hand in a specific way to restore normal movement to the joints. Chiropractic adjustments can provide effective relief of pain.

The chiropractic adjustment can change the pressure within the joint space, often causing a gas bubble to 'pop' which gives the sound sometimes associated with manipulation. It is not painful and the bones are not cracking or grinding.

How does the adjustment help?
The adjustment can improve the way joints move, reduce muscle tension / spasm around the joints and remove nerve irritation. Therefore, adjustments help people in pain due to sprained joints, strained / torn muscles and trapped nerves.

Chiropractic adjustments may alter brain activity
Every muscle in your body has many, small, spring like receptors called muscle spindles. Each muscle spindle in every muscle will send about 10 signals a second up your spinal cord to your brain. These signals help keep the nerves in your brain active, without them, over time many of the nerves in your brain would slow down or stop working.

Your brain influences how all the organs in your body are working. If chiropractic treatment changes your brain activity it may alter how your organs are working. This is why chiropractic has helped people with so many different conditions.

Your muscles are a bit like a battery that gives your brain the energy to working, when your joints are misaligned and muscles tight or weak your brain is not receiving so much energy.

We believe our treatment minimises wear and tear of the spine and joints. In so doing the signals from muscle spindles are optimum, maintaining brain activity.

This is the basis of functional neurology which aims to improve how the brain is working.
