Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine that often starts in childhood, when the body is still growing and developing.

The cause of scoliosis is often idiopathic, this means “we don’t know”, but it is thought that it could sometimes be hereditary.

Early detection can save years of pain and may be detected by uneven shoulder and or hip heights, or more weight through one leg than the other, it can be an adaptation to some type of trauma. One hemisphere of the brain developing quicker than the other may cause a scoliosis or can also occur as degenerative changes to the spine taking effect as we age.

If left uncorrected scoliosis often worsens yet unfortunately a common treatment approach seems to be to wait and see how bad it gets and perform surgery if the scoliosis becomes too severe.

Chiropractors have had excellent success with scoliosis cases. It seems the sooner it’s treated the better the results and surgery can be avoided.
