The vestibular system monitors information from all the muscles, inner ear canals and vision, to control postural muscles; keeping you upright and eyes steady on a target whilst the head moves.

Nerve signals from the inner ear are already functioning by birth and help drive the development of postural muscles required for holding their head up, sitting, crawling, walking, running and jumping.
